A Message from the Prime Minister |
The National Young Leaders Days are an opportunity to bring together many young Australians who are leaders among their peers now, and who will in future years lead our community - whether in business, government, sports, the arts, or in community organisations. I am delighted to know that such a large number of students from across Australia are participating in The National Young Leaders Days. These days are a wonderful opportunity to focus young leaders on how they can develop their character, talents and skills that will make them effective and inspirational leaders now and in the future. The 2009 Halogen Leadership Project – Winners Announced! |
Primary school students across the nation have competed in an ambitious project to develop a digital presentation about a leader that has inspired them and made a positive difference in Australia.
The winner of the 2009 Halogen Leadership Project is Avalon Public School of North Sydney, who submitted a presentation about their local hero, Craig Goozee, founder of the cancer charity A2B4C. The charity, which sees Craig complete marathons to raise money for the Children’s Institute of Cancer, was set up in the midst of his young daughter Jessica’s two-year battle with bone cancer, before the disease took her life in 1999, aged nine. Students at Avalon Public School labeled their project The Man Who Will Do Anything For Anyone and shared Jessica’s journey and courage along with that of her Dad and family. The school has also raised thousands of dollars for A2B4C and has plans to continue to support the charity. Runners up entries were from The Hills Grammar School and Greenwich Public School. All three schools have won Apple Macintosh Laptop Computers for their winning entries. Congratulations to our winners and everyone that participated in the 2009 Halogen Leadership Project!
